The inagural Barnham 5 a side fun day was a huge success, raising around £450 to put towards the new barrier.
The champions league was won by Dave Daniel's DON'T WRITE US OFF. and the UEFA cup was won by Paul Smith's LOS GALACTICOS.
Thanks to everyone who took part. Maybe next year we could stay on a bit longer and make some more money for our club.
Before the match report; All the players would like to extend their thanks to all the fans that turned up last night it is really appreciated. Your support was amazing and was a credit to you all. Thanks very much and hopefully this is just the start!!!!!
It has come to our attention that a certain Freddie Webber had to pay £4 entrance fee to play in last nights cup final. Not something the Pompey and Cardiff players will be doing on the 17th???????????
Thirty eight teams from across the county entered this 113 year old competition and it culminated in a fantastic victory for Barnham as they came from behind to clinch a magnificent victory.
On a warm evening and with a bouncy pitch it was no surprise that both teams found it hard to get the ball down and play. The opening exchanges were, therefore, fairly even but uninspiring.
It all changed after 15 minutes when Steve Carson was unable to hold onto a corner and Hussey opened the scoring for Hanover. The lead lasted for less than five minutes. Barnham’s Paul Smith broke clear and got on the end of a Ben Clilverd flick on to thump the ball past Hanover’s keeper.
Barnham started to take control but were stunned when keeper Steve Carson was clattered by a Hanover forward and the referee took no action. After lengthy treatment, he bravely carried on but had to go off just before half time with a damaged knee and a suspected broken rib. With no goalkeeper on the bench, substitute Rhys Coe stepped forward and donned the gloves.
The second half began with Barnham again in control and in the 55th minute that man Smith again found space and coolly lobbed the advancing keeper to give Barnham the lead. Karl Westbrook then proved the Barnham saviour with a cool goal line clearance.
It looked to be Barnham’s night when an outstanding shot from Richie Boxall flew into the top corner of Hanover’s net to make it 3 – 1.
Hanover weren’t finished though and after 76 minutes the Barnham defence of Josh Maynard, Marcus Cogger and Rikki Smith was finally breached with a wonder strike from 25 yards by Harding to make the score 3 – 2.
It proved to be a nail biting finish as Hanover flooded forward in search of an equaliser. Barnham’s manager Dave Daniel brought fresh legs into midfield to support the tireless Joss Parsons; Lee McCarthy and Freddie Webber replacing Stuart Hazlegrove and Sam Enticott.
The cup was finally secured in injury time when the lively Beni Clilverd was upended in the box and, after a delay to find a ball, Karl Westbrook scored from the spot.
A great victory for Barnham FC and West Sussex football.
After countless years of being overlooked by the first team manager at Selsey, despite finishing every season as leading goal scorer for the reserves. Paul Smith has set his sights on a new challenge. "I've come to score goals for this football club to help them achieve county status" His aim is to be scoring goals in county league 1 by the end of his 5 year contract.

STAR STRIKER ADMITS WRONG DOINGS WITH COMMITTEE MEMBERS WIFE
During the pre match warm-up of a recent pre season game. Frontman Beni C announced, unprompted, that he "Had Kenny's wife once". This behaviour is not tolarated by this football club and the striker is currently serving a one game ban, which makes him unavailable for the upcomming visit of Selsey Town. Beni has now served his suspension and is now available for selection.
SIDLESHAM IN BID FOR SMUDGER
Sidlesham have put in a 7 day approach for new striker Paul Smith. After brief talks between the two clubs Smudger commited to the Trojans saying "I would like to thank Sidlesham for their interest. It was an interesting offer so soon after leaving Selsey but I have only just joined Barnham and I am committed to getting them into the County League. Come on you Trojans!".

Tommy Injury Blow
As if the performance and result wasn't bad enough, Tommy Luckin was taken to hospital on Saturday suffering a suspected broken ankle following a horriffic challenge. Following X-rays at St Richards on Saturday night, it has been confirmed that Tommy has suffered a break and fracture to his right ankle. He is expected to be back in training in 6 weeks and we wish him all the best for a speedy recovery.
First Team Embaressed at East Dean (5-0)
1st Team show Bouncebackability (2-1)
The manager asked for team spirit, work rate and a result and he got all three. It wasn't the prettiest game of football, but last seasons Barnham boys would've crumbled in these kind of games. After last week the boys knew they had to grow up and become winners and that's exactly what they did.
Newtown took an early lead, when Barnham failed to deal with a long Mark Cooper free-kick drilled deep in to their penalty area.
The equaliser was also a bit scrappy and when the ball finally dropped to Smudger he wasn't going to miss, that's why we brought him to the club.
The remainder of the game was a hard fought midfield contest with only flashes of good football from both sides.
With Newtown showing why they are regarded as one of the better teams in the league and Barnham needing to prove a point the game could've gone either way. The winner came after Warren Pye had pulled of a great save to deny the infulential Joss Parsons, the re-bound fell to the prolific Benny C, who slotted home with ease.
The game was abandoned with less than five minitues to go amid unsavoury scenes which this website doesn't wish to comment on.
Smudge and Dean watch
After holding hands for most of the recent team bonding night, Smudge and Deano spent some quiet time together after the win at predators.
While the rest of the squad went back to the club house to celebrate a great result and performance. Barnham new boys Smudge and Deano were seen sitting on their own in a local pub.
First Team break Predators Jinx
Barnham recorded their 2nd succesive league win against long term rivals Predators, in their own backyard.
The 1st half was a firery encounter with Predators showing their usual physical presence, only this time Barnham were more than a match to it.
Apart from a couple of early chances for the home side Barnham probably had the better chances, but the score remained goal-less going into the break.
After putting in all the hard work in the 1st half, Barnham played the football in the 2nd. A 25 yard pile-driver from midfield enforcer Stu Hazelgrove (lucky to still be on the pitch) put Barnham in the lead and they started to look comfortable from that moment on.
Predators cause wasn't helped when their most influential player was sent off for swearing, shortly followed by Boss Paul Harris.
2 goals from m.o.m Benni C put the result beyond doubt, Predators did manage a consolation goal when Mark Duffield was wrestled over his line 1950's style.
There was still time for Paul Smith to chip in with another goal. Taking the new strike partnership to 12 in 5.
New Pics Of Last Tuesday Emerge
Injuries Overshadow Impressive Victory
Off the back of impressive victories against Newtown and Predators, the Tojans made it three wins in a row at County Reserve Side Storrington.
The 7-1 scoreline was a fair assesment of the game which saw strikers Paul Smith and Ben Clilverd make it 17 goals in 7 games. 2 goals for Beni and Smudgers first hat trick for Barnham with Mark Pedrick and Dean Bennett also getting on the score sheet.
The win was overshadowed by the news that Joss Parsons has dislocated his elbow and Pete Ball has a broken ankle. These injuries are on top of Tommy Luckin who is still out with a broken ankle sustained at East Dean. At this stage, the recovery periods are not known but Bally and Joss will be targeting a return ASAP.
We wish all three of them a speedy recovery and will update their conditions over the coming weeks.
Injury Jinx Strikes As Barnham Win Again
Barnham's injury crisis worsened on saturday as striker Beni C aggrevated the hamstring he pulled last season so will be out for a couple of weeks at least.
The game itself started very brightly with some great passing leading to an early goal for Smudger, his first of three on the day, the scores stayed the same until half time as Montpellier Villa pushed for an equaliser to no avail.
The second half started slowly until Deano picked up a loose ball centrally and put smudger through for his second. Shortly afterwards Aaron scored his first goal for the 1st team after some good work by Boxy and Pedders taking a quick free kick. Smudger completed his hat-trick with another strike but not before Pedders added his name to the score sheet.
Lordy Signs For City
It is with a mixture of feelings that we have to report that Lordy has signed a contract with Oxford City. Obviously, this is a great opportunity for the lad and we wish him all the very best!
Joss Parsons Football Genius?
It would appear that despite his off field problems, Joss 'Ginger Pele' Parsons has a fan club. A group on the popular website Facebook has started in honour of the Barnham Legend. So tell you're friends and join the group!
Barnham continued their recent cup success to progress to the last 16 of the Vernon Wentworth Cup and a tie away at Rustington Reserves.
It was a blustery day in not so sunny Brighton but Smudger got back to scoring ways with an impressive toe punt followed by one from the spot and a trademark tap in! These followed on from Joss 'Ginger Pele' Parsons opener.
The day finished up at Brighton Dogs where Mr John 'McCririck' Pedrick seemed to have inside information or a good eye for a dog!
John flashing the bling following one of his winners at the dogs on Saturday night.
Barnham Crash Out
Barnham suffered their first cup defeat of the season at Wittering Utd going down 2-0.
Dave Daniel was furious after the game after conceding two sloppy second half goals despite having complete control of the first half.
"They've let me down and themselves down, the axe is being sharpened. We had the game under control but kept falling asleep defensively in the second half, not to mention the chances that we missed at the other end" he said.
The Trojans visit Rustington Reserves next week and things will have to improve.
Coops Signs In
Dave Daniel has completed the signing of Michael Cooper.
After an impressive performance against Selsey in pre season Coops has finally put pen to paper after contract negotiations were successful. Coops will be looking for a place in the first team and may well be included in the squad for Saturdays Cup Tie at home to Cowfold.
Trojans manager Daniel was very happy at the press confrence this morning saying "Coops is a great player and will fit in well. He can play in midfield and at the back and will offer some competition for places which is healthy."
It is positive news as Barnham look to get their season off the ground after under performing so far this season.
Back to winning ways
Barnham got back to winning ways on Saturday with a 2-1 victory over local rivals Eastergate in yet another cup game. The game was a close encounter and despite the hosts 26 efforts on goal (in total) they came in at the break 1-0 down after the ball found its way through Duffers on the near post. Barnham kept pressing and although Smudger had a goal disalowed and missed a sitter, Pedders and Jossy Parsons grabbed the goals to ensure a safe passage through to the next round against Chi Uni.
Xmas do review....
This years Christmas do was a great success. I featured at least 25 Barnham players and officials and with no sign of 'Rape' or 'Roasting' everbody had a great time!!
It didn't start well as everyone arrived in anticipation of capturing the Man U vs Everton game but for some unknown reason Setanta wasn't working in the Nags so it was off to the Bull to watch the game. This was followed by dinner at the Nags and what a great dinner it was; The famous carvery for £10.95 was on the menu and seemed to go down well with clean plates all round (When Stuy had finished anyway!!!). We would like to thank Monkey for organising it and the Nags for hosting us.
Presents were the order of the day after dinner with some great ones being given out.
The Pick of the presents were:
Lordys Car Costume,
Daves Fairy Outfit,
Sammy P's Homo shirt,
Westys Captain Whitehead kit ,
and last but not least,
Beni C's Darlek!!!
Well done to all the Secret Santas!!
More info will follow as will the photos from the night when Trenty lets me have them!!!
New Assistant Recruited
Following Trenty's return to fitness, Dave Daniel has moved quickly to fill the assistant managers position. We would like to welcome Richard Smith to the role and he will take up the post with immediate effect. Richard, who was being considered for the England job before his personal demands seemed to price him out of the running leaving the FA to go for a cheaper foriegn import, brings with him a wealth of experience from Junior to County football and hopes he can provide a different point of view. "It's not my job to just be a yes man, if we agree on something great but if not then I will offer Dave my opinion then it's up to him to make the decision from there we are a team but he is the Gaffer. I have known David for many years; I am looking forward to the role and I think we can be really sucessful" he said at this mornings press conference.
Barnham Start To Climb The League
Barnham have started to climb the league and catch up games. With only 3 games in hand over top team TD Shipley, Barnham find themselves just 5 points behind. Having struggled to overcome Eastergate in a Cup encounter earlier in the season, Barnham cruised to a 5-0 victory. 2-0 up at half time with goals from Dan Lord (starting his first game for the first team this season) following a fantastic build up and a cross from Smudger and Pedders after a you take it, no you with Joss 'Ginger Pele' Parsons smashing in a free kick from the edge of the box.
The second half started with good pressure from Eastergate but substitute Beni C, making his second substitute appearance since his injury, made the game safe. Smudgers goal drought now stands at 540 minutes and wasn't helped by a missed penalty. A great run saw Sammy Enticot brought down but the resulting penalty was turned away by the keeper. Josh Maynard made it 4 before Lordy completed the scoreing.
5-0 was a fair result in the end and with better end product, the score could well have been more. The Gaffer was well pleased with the performance and was particularly pleased with the opening goal, "we played some great stuff today and I will be ******** about the first goal tonight!! That was some of the best football we have played all season but we have to keep it going or we will end up with nothing".
Barnham travel to Rottingdean in the Intermediate Cup on Saturday hoping to continue their good start to 2008.
LUCKY DRAW
Barnham turned in one of their worst performances of the season on saturday and were lucky to escape with a point in the end, despite taking the lead twice.
The first came direct from a corner as Benny C headed the Trojans infront.
But instead of kicking-on, Barnham stopped working, stopped playing and showed a distinct lack of commitment, which allowed East Dean to equalise.
Barnham took the lead again through an own goal, it seems even the opposition would rather put through their own net then let Smudger get back on the goal scoring trail.
Both teams were reduced to 10 men as a result of another 'interesting' decision by the very mobile and keen sighted referee.
The second East Dean equaliser came from a free-kick, although the ball travelled a long way and should've been dealt with, it was definately coming, as Barnham continued to give away needless free-kicks.
There was just enough time for Leroy to miss a penalty (his first miss)
Manager Dave Daniel was at a loss to explain his sides performance.
"It baffles me that commitment is being questioned at this stage of the season, with the lads still well in with a shout of 4 out of the 5 competitions we started the season in. We need a massive improvement if we don't want another season of 'what could've been'. On another note, the loss of Mark Pedrick will be a big miss for me, he's been one of our most consistant players"
2 POINTS DROPPED
Barnham dropped another 2 valuable points on Saturday at home to Wittering.
The Trojans failed to hold onto a lead for the 3rd week running after Benny C put them infront with a RIGHT FOOT finish after a great touch from Shauno Wit.
Barnham dominated for long periods of the game without creating too many chances, which proved costly when Spencer toe-punted Witterings equaliser with 5 mins to go.
Barnham need to show an improvement in work rate and fitness levels after being put to shame by Witterings midfield duo of Jamie Clayton and Antony Wills, although the most influencial man on the game wasn't even a player as the linesman (who I don't wish to name) once again proved an embarissment to his own players and fans with a string of dodgy decisions and some completely needless verbals.
On a plus side recent signing Marcus Cogger was outstanding on his debut
Vernon Wentworth Cup Draw
As you can see the quarter final draw for the Vernon Wentworth Cup has paired us with L & S Athletic who ply their trade in the Worthing Premier Division. After putting current holders Rustington out at the weekend, Barnham will be looking to make sure the new name on the trophy is theirs. Barnham will face Saltdean Utd should they make the semi-final who beat Bosham 2-0 at the weekend.
Cup Final Secured
Saltdean Utd 1 - 2 Barnham
Barnham secured their place in the final of the Vernon Wentworth Cup last night with a fantasic victory of Sussex County Division 3 side Saltdean.
Two first half goals from Joss Parsons and Stuart Hazlegrove were enough to see the Trojans through although a questionable penalty gave Saltdean a lifeline and made the final few minutes a little uncomfortable.
Having booked their cup final place, Barnham now have to concentrate on the league with a busy, and crucial, Easter weekend seeing a visit to Wittering on the Saturday followed by the visit of TD Shipley on the Monday (both 15:00 ko).
The players would like to thank the army of travelling Trojans for their support last night, it was fantasic.
GAME OF 2 HALVES (3-2)
Barnham had the wind behind them in the first half and scored 3, L&S Athletic had the wind advantage in the second half and scored 2.
That doesn't tell the whole story as Barnham returned to winning ways at a very important stage of the season. Benny C put the visitors infront very early on as Barnham dominated the early exchanges. Next came the moment we've been waiting 10 weeks for as Paul 'Smudger' Smith hooked the ball over his head and into the back of the net, cue very happy and relieved celebrations. Barnham looked to have put the game beyond doubt when Marcus Cogger nearly broke the net with a bullet header from a well worked corner.
From there on in it was pretty much backs to the wall defending as Steve Carson made a fine save and Monkey, Rik and Cogger all cleared off the line.
L&S scored a good header from a right-wing cross followed by a fluke wind assisted cross. In the end Barnham were just happy to leave the hostile ground with a well earned win.
Thanks to the Lancing Harvester for their hospitality. 1 member of the squad would like to apologise to Amanda for throwing a pea at her and also losing her number on the wheatherspoons floor.
BARNHAM CRUISE TO 4-0 VICTORY
Barnham impressed the fans with a fantastic display of effort and slick passing and taught Wittering a footballing lesson, in their own back yard.
Wittering had the wind advantage in the first half and put Barnham under pressure, but the back four of Monkey, Cogger, JT and Ricardo Boxillio defended very well, soaking up most of the pressure limiting them to few chances, one of which was a great long range effort from Dean Platt that was surperbly tipped over the bar by Rob Hill (comming in to make his debut at the last minute for the injured and gutted Steve Carson).
0-0 at half-time and the hard work done.
With the wind now behind them there was only ever going to be one winner and when witterings only attacking threat limped off it was a fore gone conclusion. Smudger put the visitors in front with a well taken goal, some mite say reminiscent of a young Mickey Green (probably something to do with the nose). Que mass celebrations from players and fans and a very excited physio. Benny C was next on the score sheet after another good passing build up. Joss Parsons signaled to the bench that he was injured and needed to come off, but not before chipping Gus for Barnhams 3rd goal. The rout was complete when Benny scored his second.
A great result and a good performance that Barnham will be hoping to take into the bank holiday game against T D Shipley
Massive March
Following the disapointment of the penalty shoot out defeat to Newtown Villa, Barnhams season is set to be defined by the remaining fixtures of March. Their next games include visits to Newtown Villa and Wittering either side of the rearranged semi final with Saltdean Utd and they close the month with back to back games with title rivals TD Shipley.
All this means that come the end of the month Barnham will either be in a cup final and sitting very comfortably in the league with it all to play for or... well the or is doen't need mentioning.
All that needs to be said is that whrer this season goes is very much in the hands of the players and with the right attitude and application success will follow.
